Best Job Portals in India (2026): 11 Sites, and Who Each One Is For

The best job portals in India are Naukri and LinkedIn for most white-collar roles, plus one portal built for your stage: Internshala if you're a fresher, Instahyre or Cutshort if you're in tech, iimjobs if you're in management, Apna if you want local or frontline work. Using all eleven is not a strategy. Picking the two or three that match your profile, and using them well, is.
Here's the quick comparison:
| # | Portal | Best for | Cost to job seekers | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Naukri | Almost every white-collar role | Free (paid add-ons) | Your profile is one of 118 million |
| 2 | Recruiter search, referrals, MNC roles | Free (Premium optional) | Easy Apply piles are enormous | |
| 3 | Indeed India | Broad search, salary research | Free | Reposted and scraped listings |
| 4 | foundit (ex-Monster) | Mid-level corporate roles | Free (paid add-ons) | Smaller recruiter base than Naukri |
| 5 | Internshala | Freshers and internships | Free (paid courses) | Stipends and starting CTCs can be low |
| 6 | Instahyre | Tech and product roles, a few years in | Free (premium tier) | Only roles it lists for your profile |
| 7 | Cutshort | Startup and tech hiring | Free | Startup-heavy, fewer non-tech roles |
| 8 | iimjobs / hirist | Management (iimjobs) and tech (hirist) | Free (paid add-ons) | Skews senior and metro |
| 9 | Apna | Local, frontline and entry-level jobs | Free | Quality varies; verify every employer |
| 10 | NCS (ncs.gov.in) | Government-linked and registered openings | Free | Slower, form-heavy experience |
| 11 | Company career pages | Applying where recruiters actually look | Free | Scattered across thousands of sites |
Here's what most people get wrong. They believe that being on more portals means more calls. In practice, recruiters search a portal by keywords, recency, and notice period, so a stale profile on six sites loses to a sharp, recently updated profile on two. The real driver is how findable you are on the portals recruiters in your field actually use, and whether you're applying to listings that are still open.
Which job portal is best in India overall?
Naukri, for reach. It has been live since 1997, and Info Edge told investors in August 2026 that its database holds approximately 118 million resumes, with over 25,000 new profiles added every day. That database is what recruiters search, which is why a complete Naukri profile still matters even if you never click "apply" there.
That same scale is the catch. With that many profiles, recruiters filter hard: title, skills, current CTC, notice period, location, and how recently you updated. Update your profile every week or two during a search (even a small edit), keep your headline in the words a recruiter would search, and fill in notice period honestly. If you want the full comparison, we wrote an honest Praxy vs Naukri breakdown. If you're targeting the Gulf too, Naukri's sister site Naukrigulf and the other job sites in Dubai are covered separately.
Is LinkedIn better than Naukri for jobs in India?
For MNCs, startups, and senior roles, often yes. For mass hiring and mid-level IT services roles, Naukri usually wins. LinkedIn has more than 160 million users in India, according to its India head in September 2025, and its real edge is that recruiters and hiring managers find you there and your network can refer you.
Use both, differently:
Weak version: Same generic headline on both sites ("Seeking new opportunities"), Easy Apply to 50 roles on LinkedIn, and a Naukri profile last updated eight months ago.
Strong version: Naukri headline that matches the exact title recruiters search ("Senior Data Analyst, SQL, Power BI, 5 yrs, 30-day notice"), updated weekly. On LinkedIn, a profile written for the role you want next, plus a direct message to one person at each target company.
Which job portal is best for freshers in India?
Internshala, then Naukri and LinkedIn. Internshala lists 10,000+ internships, plus fresher jobs with a minimum CTC of 2 LPA, and it's built for people with no experience, so you aren't filtered out for lacking "2-3 years." A good internship can also turn into a full-time offer, which is a better entry path than cold-applying to roles meant for experienced hires.
For campus hiring and off-campus drives, also register on the large portals and set alerts for "fresher" and "graduate trainee." Your resume matters more than the portal at this stage: here's how to write a resume for freshers that gets past the first screen.
Which portals are best for tech and startup jobs in India?
Instahyre, Cutshort, hirist, and Wellfound. These work differently from Naukri: fewer listings, higher relevance.
- Instahyre shows only the top matching job posts, from a pool of over 2,000 companies, and says the companies on it are verified. It's strongest for engineers and product people with a few years' experience. Our Praxy vs Instahyre post covers where it falls short.
- Cutshort focuses on technology hiring and leans toward startups.
- iimjobs and hirist are both owned by Info Edge, Naukri's parent, which acquired their operator Highorbit Careers in 2019. iimjobs targets management roles; hirist targets tech.
- Wellfound lists startup roles globally, including Indian startups, with salary and equity shown on the listing.
On these portals, the profile does more work than the application. They match you to roles, so the skills you list and the projects you describe decide what you're shown. Name the stack you've shipped with, not every tool you've touched. Add one line per role about what you built and what changed because of it ("cut checkout latency from 900 ms to 300 ms" beats "worked on performance"). And set your expected CTC realistically: on matching platforms, an inflated number quietly removes you from shortlists you would have made.
What about government jobs and local jobs?
For government-linked openings, use the National Career Service portal (ncs.gov.in). India's labor ministry reported in August 2026 that more than 6.64 crore jobseekers have registered, 2.89 crore are active, and 17.68 lakh vacancies were active as of July 15. It's form-heavy and slower than commercial portals, but it carries openings and job fairs you won't find elsewhere. For recruitment exams (SSC, UPSC, state PSCs), always go to the official commission website, never a third-party portal.
For local, frontline, and entry-level work (delivery, retail, sales, support, office staff), Apna is built for exactly this kind of hiring. Treat every listing as unverified until you've confirmed the employer exists, and walk away from anyone who asks for money.
How do you avoid fake jobs on Indian job portals?
Never pay anyone for a job. Naukri's own security center puts it bluntly: no legitimate company will ever ask you to pay for the job, and it lists "registration fee," "refundable fee," and "document processing fee" as the usual excuses scammers use.
Other red flags worth acting on:
- An offer letter without an interview, or a "selection" over WhatsApp alone.
- Recruiter emails from Gmail or Yahoo instead of the company's own domain.
- A salary far above the market for the role (check the band on Indeed India's salary pages or with people in the role).
- A listing that doesn't appear on the company's own careers page.
That last check catches dead listings too, not just scams. Praxy's job search for India pulls roles from company career sites and links to the original posting, so you can confirm a role is real before you apply.
Should you pay for premium plans on job portals?
Usually not. Paid add-ons on Indian portals promise more visibility or a featured profile, but none of them can make a recruiter shortlist a profile that doesn't match the role. Spend the effort on a sharp headline, a resume tailored to the job, and a clear notice period (see how notice period affects your offer). If you do pay, pay for one month while you're actively applying, then measure whether recruiter calls actually went up.
The same goes for resume-writing packages sold on the portals. A rewritten resume can help if yours is genuinely weak, but it can't fix a mismatch between your experience and the roles you're applying to. Before you pay anyone, compare your resume against three real listings you want: if the top requirements in each aren't visible in your first half page, fix that yourself first. It's free, and it's the change that moves shortlists.
What to do now
- Pick two portals, not six. Naukri or LinkedIn for reach, plus the one specialist that matches your stage or field.
- Rewrite your headline in recruiter search terms. Title, two or three core skills, years of experience, and notice period.
- Update your profile every week or two. Recency is a filter, and a small edit keeps you near the top of recruiter searches.
- Apply on the company's career page when you can. Find the role on the portal, confirm it's live on the company site, and apply there.
- Know your numbers before the call. Have your current CTC, expected CTC and in-hand math ready (our guide to CTC meaning helps).
- Never pay for a job. Report anyone who asks to the portal and walk away.
Not sure which portal fits your profile, or whether a recruiter message is genuine? Forward it to Praxy on WhatsApp. We'll check the company and the role, tell you where to apply, and help you rewrite your headline so the right recruiters find you.
